Outdoor Pursuits

Outdoor Pursuits activity at Belvedere is centred on the Transition Year (TY) Outdoor Pursuits program and the recently established Belvedere Adventure Club. As one of their TY modules, participating students take part in kayaking, rock climbing and hill walking on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in addition to learning how to plan an expedition and write and expedition document. At the end of the program in May, students undertake a training week and expedition abroad at a location of their choosing. In 2009, this trip was based in Sella near Alicante where students explored the coastline in sea kayaks, scaled the renowned local cliff faces and clambered down a 200 metre deep canyon.

The Belvedere Adventure Club was established in 2009 with the aim of enhancing and developing a culture of outdoor pursuits in the school. It is hoped that both staff and students will take part in activities including kayaking, hill walking, rock climbing and wild camping. To date the adventure club has gone on a camping/kayaking weekend in Wicklow and canoed through the city centre from Strawberry Beds to Dublin Port.
