All Ireland Track and Field Success

The College of Science returns to its rightful home!

Over two days last weekend our incredible Senior track and field team won the Senior team title. Our walkers Jim and Jack started the weekend with a bang finishing 4th and 5th respectively. Harry Kinsella finished an outstanding 5th in the Triple Jump early on Saturday morning. The man mountain Eoin McDermott  picked up points in both his events, finishing 7th in the Discus and 5th in the hammer. Going into the afternoon we trailed CBS Kilkenny but with Chris Lynch smashing the school record over 400m to pick up our first Senior medal of the day, finishing 2nd in the 400m, we put ourselves within striking distance of the opposition. It all came down the Senior relay, a crack team of speed merchants, hopeful of medal on the big stage. Cillian Doherty flew out of the blocks, handing over to Issac Soden who stormed down the back straight.

Matthew Mason was next, tearing around the curve and into the straightaway and tearing his groin in the process but still managing to hand the baton over Gavin

O’ Brien who got the baton in 2nd place, gamely chasing Campbell College down the final 100m. Belvedere finished in 2nd, overturning Oatlands College who had won the Leinster title.

This result put up into a clear lead for the team title and the cup was presented to the team in the final act of a long weekend.

Our first Senior title in 3 seasons.
